Directors,
Welcome to the McBain Site of the MSBOA District One Band & Orchestra Festival –
February 25 ,26 and 27, 2020.
The school address is 107 East Maple Street, McBain, MI 49657. Have your buses and vehicles go to the east side of the school. Bus parking will be angle parking (follow first bus so ALL busses will fit properly) on the east side parking lot. Any equipment vehicles should go to the back of the auditorium/loading dock (will be marked, see map). If you are bringing a lot of stuff, let me know so we are prepared. Plan to arrive about an hour or so before performance, earlier if you plan to watch other groups.
We are letting schools use all large percussion equipment on stage and in sight reading. Do NOT move any equipment off the stage unless it is yours! Bring ALL STICKS AND MALLETS AND LABEL EVERYTHING. Make sure your percussionists have a system - especially the younger ones :) Perhaps assign a parent to help out.
Stage percussion available to use – keyboards (bells, xylophone and marimba), bass drum, 4 timpani, chimes, grand piano (you need a snare, toms, cymbals, traps, ALL MALLETS/BEATERS/STICKS, etc.). Email me if you plan to use the grand piano.
SR percussion available to use - keyboards, bass drum, timpani, chimes (you need a snare, toms, cymbals, traps, ALL MALLETS/BEATERS/STICKS, etc.).
Sign in first at headquarters. Take your group in through the EAST entry (glass entry) and bring coats and cases to your designated coat area (multipurpose room).
Warm-up is in the Band Room, performance on stage, SR in the Large Gymnasium.
We will not use student guides for each group, but rather students and parents stationed in opportune places. Ask headquarters or a student a question on where to go/what to do (or call/email me prior).
Warm-up time is the previous group's performance time slot. My student workers will give some soft timing reminders (set-up crew, 5-minute warning, etc.). I will have High School Band Students on stage to help with set up, but please have your diagrams to me well in advance or have your own set up crew;-)
Ratings will be posted in the multi-use room (coat room/concessions). We are also running concessions both days and would love for you to encourage your students to eat at our school and support our band program. Judges are to release sheets between each group, so there shouldn't be any considerable delay in getting your rating.
If you have specific requests or questions, please feel free to ask!
